The Crockett Area Chamber of Commerce provides the county with opportunities to learn about its past through living history examples during the annual Heritage Days Festival in October. Grapeland hosts the Peanut Festival each October, celebrating the harvest with games, parades and family fun.
Many visitors explore the pioneer past at The Rice Log Cabin, an original stagecoach house that was moved to the Mission Tejas State Park. The Monroe-Crook House, built by Armistead Thompson Mason Monroe (grandnephew of the fifth president of the United States), is a Registered National Historic Landmark and a Texas Historical Medallion Home. In 1854, Monroe built this home to reflect the homes and styles he left in Virginia. The house reflects the background and culture that Mr. Monroe enjoyed, represents the character of the men who came here to establish homes and makes Crockett one of the most charming towns in East Texas.
